Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Success also indicates he has won 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
